Can Melanie

On a hillside beside the village of Sant Agustí, close to Cala Bassa and Ibiza's west coast, Can Melanie is a traditional Ibicenco farmhouse with a contemporary edge. Inside are terracotta floors, whitewashed walls and timber beams; outside, the sea, the countryside and the evening sky.

Life here revolves around the table. Breakfast is taken in the sun in the kitchen, lunch runs long on the terrace under a beamed roof, and dinner arrives as the western sky turns red over the water. In between come the pool, the nearby calas and the occasional siesta in the garden.

Island tradition, contemporary comfort

The interiors pair terracotta tiled floors, white walls and beamed ceilings with touches of modern minimalism and high-quality furnishings. The kitchen is the social centre of the house, with a sunny breakfast table leading straight through to one of the indoor dining spaces. The lounge, generous and welcoming, opens directly onto the pool terrace, and on cooler evenings the fireplace draws everyone back in.

Three bedrooms are in the main house; the other three are in guest casitas set around the grounds, each with twin beds, its own en-suite bathroom and a terrace. It is a layout that gives couples or older children real privacy while keeping the group together.

Pool, timber deck and two outdoor dining areas

The L-shaped pool is framed by terraces and a wooden deck laid with sunloungers. A wide terrace holds an al fresco dining table, shaded by a traditional beamed roof, and a timber pergola in the garden shelters a second outdoor dining space, alongside further seating areas, a lawn and a barbecue. A music system plays through the afternoon. The property is fenced, with private parking. From the terraces the view takes in both the sea and the countryside around the house, and by the end of the afternoon the whole group tends to turn towards the same point on the horizon, where the sun will go down.

The west is where Ibiza's sun sets over the sea, and Can Melanie is close by. Cala Bassa and Cala Conta are close by, and the village of Sant Agustí is next door. We recommend a hire car.
