The calas
The west coast is where the island keeps most of its swimming. Cala Conta and Cala Bassa for flat, bright water and a boat ride to lunch; Cala Tarida and Cala Vadella for the family end of the day; Cala Molí and Cala Salada for the ones that stay quieter because the road down is worse. Sant Josep village itself is inland, with a market square that is still a village square in August.
Almost everything on this side faces west, which means the sunset is not something you drive to. Es Vedrà stands out of the water off the south-west corner and is visible from a good part of the coast.
Who this side suits
This is the largest of our areas, so it is usually where there is still something free when the dates are tight. The airport is about fifteen to twenty minutes from the village, a little more from the calas themselves.
It suits a week built around the water and the boat: short drives to several different swims rather than one beach you return to. Groups who want to walk to dinner tend to be happier on the Ibiza Town side at Cap Martinet, and groups who want nobody at all nearby tend to end up in the north.
