Can Savasana

Can Savasana is a sixteenth-century finca in the pine-covered hills above Cala Salada, with private access down to the cala and the open sea in front of the house. The walls are old, the comforts are current, and the sun sets straight over the water.

A day here follows the light. Breakfast comes early on the terrace, while the pines still smell of the night; afternoons drift between the infinity pool and the shade; evenings belong to the outdoor bar, where the sky turns copper over the Mediterranean before dinner is carried out under the stars.

Five centuries of character

The restoration has kept the soul of the house intact. Heavy wooden beams, old tiles and Balinese fittings sit alongside unusual artworks and artefacts, so every room has something to look at. Air conditioning, ceiling fans and a fireplace keep the house comfortable in any month, and the kitchen is fully fitted for anyone who enjoys cooking for a table of friends.

The bedrooms are spread over the different levels of the finca. The principal suite takes the top floor and opens onto a large private terrace with the widest sea view on the property: the place for the first coffee of the day and the last glass of the evening.

The pool, the gardens and the outdoor bar

Outside, the grounds step down the hillside in terraces, lawn and garden. The infinity pool looks out to sea, and its area can be fenced, which parents of small children appreciate. There is a Mediterranean garden, a vegetable garden, corners of sun and shade, a barbecue for long lunches and an outdoor bar that becomes the natural meeting point at sunset. Tables are set in more than one spot, so lunch can follow the shade and dinner can follow the view.

There are no neighbours in sight, only cicadas and the wind in the pines. The property is fully fenced, with CCTV, an alarm and private parking, and pets are welcome as part of the family.

Cala Salada and the sunset coast

Having Cala Salada so close changes the shape of a holiday, with a swim before breakfast and back up the hill for lunch. San Antonio, with its shops and sunset cafés, is a short drive away. A hire car is recommended.

Weddings and slower weeks

The setting lends itself to occasions. Weddings and filming can be arranged with the owner's agreement, while honeymooners and families find the same house just as suited to quieter weeks.
