The east coast
Santa Eulalia has the flattest roads and the calmest water in Ibiza, and a promenade that is genuinely pleasant to walk in the evening. The restaurants along it stay open well outside the summer, which is why this side works in May and October as well as it does in August.
S'Argamassa and the coast north of the town are low, pine-backed and sheltered. San Carlos, inland from it, is a one-street village with a market and a bar that has been the same bar for fifty years.
Who this side suits
Families, mostly, and anyone travelling with people who do not want a cliff road at night. Flat approaches, shallow water, and somewhere to walk to with children without getting in the car.
The airport is about twenty-five to thirty minutes away, so it is not the side to choose if the week is short and the flights are awkward. What it gives back is a holiday that runs itself: you can leave the car parked for two days and still have somewhere to go.
