Villa Mariola

In the forest between Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia and Santa Gertrudis, Villa Mariola is a renovated finca. Contemporary minimalism meets the traditional Ibiza country house here, and at the centre of it all is a twenty-metre lap pool set in an authentic Ibicenco garden.

Days begin early for the swimmers, with lengths in the cool of the morning and breakfast on the terrace as the sun reaches the garden. After dark the pool is lit, a long ribbon of light among the trees.

Between minimalism and tradition

The renovation has kept the soul of the old finca while opening it up to the light. A sun-filled living room links a modern, fully fitted kitchen with a traditional finca-style sitting area, so cooking and conversation share the same space. The sitting area keeps the character of the original house, while the kitchen belongs entirely to today. A fireplace brings warmth on cooler evenings, there is a music system, and wifi and satellite TV are there when needed.

The bedrooms

The bedrooms are generous doubles, each with air conditioning, served by well-designed bathrooms. They are calm and uncluttered, the kind of rooms where the first thing you notice in the morning is the light coming in through the trees. The layout gives everyone privacy, which makes the house work as well for a family as for friends or a couple on honeymoon.

The lap pool and the garden

The twenty-metre lap pool is the defining feature of the house and makes it genuinely rewarding for anyone who swims seriously. It is framed by an Ibicenco garden, with sunloungers for the hours in between, and softly illuminated at night, when it becomes the backdrop for dinner outside on the terraces. Between swims, the terraces around the house offer sun or shade depending on the hour, and there is always a quiet corner for a book. The grounds are fenced, with an alarm, and the surrounding forest keeps the setting green and private.

Santa Eulalia, Santa Gertrudis and Ibiza Town

Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia are each about eight kilometres away, and the village of Santa Gertrudis is under ten minutes by car. The house also welcomes retreat groups looking for a calm, green base.
