Can Nora

Olive trees surround Can Nora, a restored hacienda a short walk from the village of Santa Gertrudis, in the rural heart of Ibiza. The house has several centuries behind it, and the restoration has respected every one of them: sabina-wood ceilings, lime-washed stone walls, and contemporary interiors that bring in light and ease.

The house lends itself to two speeds. In the morning, a stroll into the village for coffee; in the afternoon, the pool, the shade of old trees and nothing on the agenda. When the sun drops, the green hills around the estate fade into the dusk and the table is laid outside by the barbecue.

Island history, contemporary interiors

The living rooms are filled with natural light and combine traditional architecture with carefully chosen furnishings and a sophisticated eye. There is a reading corner with a good selection of books, a traditional-style, fully fitted kitchen and a fireplace for cooler evenings. The layout gives every guest privacy within a generous estate that feels open and unhurried.

The bedrooms are large and each is decorated in its own style, under original sabina ceilings and between white stone walls. Most are in the main house; the others are outside rooms with their own entrance, popular with couples or anyone who likes a little more independence. The house is air-conditioned, and every room has high-speed wifi.

Gardens, pool and a barn made for celebrations

The pool looks out over the countryside, with sunloungers and a lawn around it, and the gardens hide secluded chill-out corners. Ancient trees, cacti and flowering plants fill the grounds, and their scent shifts through the day. A wide patio and a converted barn beside it make a natural setting for long dinners and celebrations; events and weddings are possible by arrangement with the owner. There is a music system and private parking.

Beyond the garden, rows of olive trees and the surrounding hills frame every view from the terraces. This is the Ibizan interior at its most authentic, and the outdoor dining table is the best seat from which to enjoy it, from breakfast through to the last glass of the night.

Santa Gertrudis and the centre of the island

Santa Gertrudis is a vibrant village, with bars, cafés and good restaurants. A hire car is recommended.

A long weekend or a whole week

Can Nora works beautifully for groups of friends, families and couples travelling together, and its short minimum stay makes it just as suitable for a long weekend as for a full week.
