Can Orange

Around ten minutes' drive from Ibiza Town, at Sa Carroca, Can Orange looks out from its terrace over centuries-old olive trees and vineyards. It is a traditional Ibiza-style house on a generous plot, with countryside all around and the town close at hand.

The terrace is where the days are spent. A flower-lined path leads up to the wooden front door, the pool and the barbecue; the long table along the front of the house hosts breakfast, lunch and dinner, and in between there is time to read under the trees or doze by the water. In the evening the wood oven is lit for pizzas.

Kitchen, living room and a quiet reading corner

Through the rustic wooden door is the kitchen and dining room, fitted with modern appliances and very much the heart of the home, linking the terraces with the living room and the bedrooms. The living room, right beside the terraces, has a fireplace and traditional juniper-beamed ceilings, a warm place to gather. Next to it, a quiet nook with a desk and countryside views works for reading or, when needed, a little work.

The bedrooms have wooden ceilings, windows to the outside and simple, well-chosen Mediterranean décor, and the house is air-conditioned. It is also wheelchair friendly.

Pool among fruit trees, wood oven and outdoor bar

The pool is ringed by fruit trees, palms and wildflowers, with sunloungers set out in the sun. Close by, a covered area brings together a barbecue, a wood-fired oven and a large table for long family meals, and an outdoor bar adds a sense of occasion. There is a lawn, a children's play area and an outdoor play area, plus a garage and private parking within gated grounds.

Around the terraces, gardens of native plants and colourful flowers create quiet places to sit, and beyond them the olive trees and vines shape the landscape. Towards sunset the light turns golden between the twisted trunks and the air smells of earth and wild herbs.

Ibiza Town is minutes away. It is a practical base for anyone who wants to explore the island and come back each evening to the calm of the countryside.
