Can Xarraca

Can Xarraca stands on the north coast of Ibiza near Portinatx, a front-line property whose gardens run right down to the seashore. Two houses share the grounds, joined by a covered courtyard: one a newer home designed by Blakstad, the other a centuries-old finca with Sabina wood ceilings, both looking out to sea.

Life here moves at the pace of the north. Breakfast on a terrace above the water, a walk down through the garden for a swim, lunch in the shade beside a Moroccan courtyard planted with box hedges and herbs, and an afternoon on cushions at the far end of the pool with nothing in front of you but the Mediterranean.

The Blakstad house

The more recent part of Can Xarraca carries the signature of Blakstad. Its main living room has high beamed ceilings, a fireplace and deep sofas, with French doors opening on one side to a terrace over the sea and on the other to the Moroccan courtyard garden. Double doors lead through to a central hall, the kitchen and the bedrooms.

The principal suite occupies the first floor, with a four-poster bed and a large private terrace with a fountain and views of the sea and the coastal cliffs. On the ground floor, a double and a twin room open through French doors onto a terrace of their own.

The old finca

Across the courtyard, the older house keeps its original features and its beautiful Sabina wood ceilings. Downstairs there is a double bedroom with an en-suite, a twin room, a second kitchen and a small sitting room with a fireplace; upstairs, a double room with a private terrace facing the sea. For a large family, or two families travelling together, the arrangement gives everyone a place of their own.

Pool, lawn and garden terraces

Beside the main house, a wide lawn is framed by two enormous palm trees and the swimming pool, which can be heated on request. At the far end, a chill-out area with cushions under a canvas sunshade is where afternoons quietly disappear. Terraces are scattered around the house and gardens, there is a barbecue and an outdoor play area for children, and in summer meals are usually taken outside next to the Moroccan garden. Air conditioning, central heating, wifi, satellite TV and a high-spec music system complete the picture.

Portinatx and the northern calas

The property is reached from the coast road through a remote-controlled gate, with private parking for several cars. From the garden it is a short walk to the pebbles of Cala Xuclar or the sand of Cala Xarraca, and Portinatx is close by. This is the green, pine-covered north of Ibiza, and a hire car is recommended for exploring it. Weddings and events can be arranged with the owner.
