Villas in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza: A Guide to the East Coast

Santa Eulalia is the town on Ibiza's east coast, built around a marina, a seafront promenade and the island's only river. The villas around it run from hillside fincas among pine and olive to houses a few metres from the sea. If you are looking for a villa in Santa Eulalia, the first decision is not the house but the setting: forest, hillside or water.

The town's official name is Santa EulĂ ria des Riu in Catalan, and Santa Eulalia del RĂo in Spanish. All three spellings point to the same place, and to the same stretch of coast.

Where is Santa Eulalia in Ibiza?

On the east side of the island, facing the sunrise. The old quarter climbs the Puig de Missa, a hill crowned by a whitewashed, fortified church, with views down to the river and the seafront. Below it, the Passeig de s'Alamera runs from the town square to the sea. To the south, Cala Llonga is a few minutes by car; to the north, Es Canar is about ten minutes away.

Around the town the land opens into countryside and small coastal areas such as s'Argamassa, Es Canar, San Carlos and the gated community of Roca Llisa. Our villa pages group them under Santa Eulalia.

Three settings, three kinds of week

Where the house sits changes how the days go, more than the number of bedrooms.

  • On the hillside or in the forest. Villa Nicole is a traditional finca on the outskirts of Santa Eulalia, surrounded by forest that gives it shade, privacy and quiet; it sleeps up to 12. Ca'na Calma sits on a hill between Santa Eulalia and San Carlos, refurbished by Blakstad Architects, with sea and countryside views across about 180 degrees, a sauna and a jacuzzi. Puig Can Fluxa is a century-old finca on a hillside, looking over open countryside.
  • Close to the water. Can Luna, at s'Argamassa, has the sun rising out of the sea in front of its terraces, with the nearest beach only a few metres away. Villa Niu Blau stands between two beaches, Niu Blau and Cala Pada, a short walk from each, so the car can stay parked for most of the day.
  • Inland, among olive trees. Villa Libelula is a renovated farmhouse near Es Canar, set in 65,000 square metres of olive groves from which the owners press their own oil. Near San Carlos, Villa Trevi has a saltwater pool, a roof terrace for the sunrise and an outdoor kitchen.

None of these is better than the others. They suit different weeks: one where the days happen in the garden and around the pool, and one where the sea is the first thing you see in the morning.

What can you do from a villa near Santa Eulalia?

Quite a lot without getting in the car. Walk the Passeig de s'Alamera down to the marina, climb the Puig de Missa for the view, or follow the river on the walking route of about three kilometres. Cala Llonga and Es Canar make easy beach mornings, and Roca Llisa has its golf course. In the evening, the promenade has shops and cafés, and the villa terrace is always an option.

For the sea, a day on a boat is the natural addition. Formentera is about 35 minutes from Ibiza by boat; our yachts come with a professional skipper and insurance, while fuel is not included: it is charged at cost, with no mark-up, and we tell you a realistic figure for your route before you commit. How to choose a villa in Santa Eulalia

  • Setting first. Forest, hillside, olive land or water. Pick the one that matches the week you picture.
  • Distance on foot. Does the group want the town, the beach or the countryside within walking distance? Several houses here say "a short walk" and mean it; others are for those who prefer to drive.
  • Who is travelling. Families often want a lawn, a play area and a pool with shallow steps; couples and friends may prefer terraces and a roof. Our guide on how families choose a luxury villa goes into this.
  • Group size. For a party of around twelve, read Villa in Ibiza for 12 People.
  • A car. Most villas in the countryside are easier with a hire car; we can arrange one with the rest of the stay.

If you are comparing the east coast with the centre of the island, Santa Gertrudis is a different kind of week, built around its village square. See villas in Santa Gertrudis. And for the beaches, Best Beaches in Ibiza explains which cala to choose, and when.
